„First Kings of Europe"…

...that is, the large-scale international exhibition entitled "The First Kings of Europe" opened in Chicago at the Field Museum, which also includes valuable pieces from the Deri Museum's collection.

The exhibition, selected from the outstanding archaeological findings of the Northern region of the Balkan Peninsula and the Carpathian Basin, provides a specific overview from the Neolithic to the Late Iron Age, covering about 7,500 years. The central theme and purpose of the exhibition is to enable the American audience to learn about how social segregation developed in the prehistoric civilization of SE Europe, how certain individuals gained significant power, how the region reached the formation of the first kingdoms during the Iron Age, and how the what material memories of the centralization of political and economic power have survived.

Among these, one of the most spectacular and significant groups of objects is one of the most precious Bronze Age treasures of the Deri Museum, the so-called Hajdusamson bronze treasure consisting of 12 bronze axes and one of the continent's first bronze swords.

The bronze sword of Hajdusamson can be seen on the northern facade of the Field Museum. At the opening, the Deri Museum was presented by dr. Director Janos Angi and archaeologist dr. Janos Dani. The exhibition can be visited in Chicago from March 31, 2023 to January 28, 2024.
